Review: Readability of online patient education material for the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19): A cross-sectional health literacy study

This research article concludes that COVID-19 online educational articles are too difficult for laypeople to read and understand.

The readability of educational articles about COVID-19 are too high for the average American to understand. Most online educational materials are written at a high school graduate level or above even though the recommendation for comprehension is the fifth grade reading level or below. Because of this, many people may not be able to read and/or understand vital information that is important for them to know how to protect themselves and to limit the spread of COVID-19.
