May is Asthma Awareness Month

May 1, 2024

May is Asthma Awareness Moimage shows an inhaler with spacer sitting over an orange clothnth a time to focus and educate friends, family, and patients about asthma and to promote resources that increase awareness of the seriousness of asthma, which is a serious, chronic respiratory disease that be controlled.

The Indiana Joint Asthma Coalition (InJAC) has been working to reduce the burden of asthma in Indiana since 2003! One of the main ways we do this is to provide a free, yearly asthma summit designed to educate nurses, doctors, social workers, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and people with asthma in a virtual format that is easy to access and offers continuing education credits from Indiana University.

On May 7th, InJAC had it’s annual summit to explore myths and misconceptions about asthma. Presenters discussed housing and how it affects chronic health issues like asthma, exercise, and asthma, and vaping & 2nd and 3rd smoke. View the summit recording here.

While May is Asthma Awareness month, the Indiana Joint Asthma Coalition (InJAC) works year-round to make strong connections throughout our state by working with local health departments to share resources on prevention and control of asthma. Health First Indiana, the initiative created by Senate Enrolled Act 4, which is legislation passed by the Indiana General Assembly 9n 2023 seeks to transform public health through increased funding that allows counties to work toward improving health outcomes based on their own unique needs.
