High school students who complete the Indiana CTSI’s SEED/STEM program will be offered conditional acceptance to IU Indianapolis

Beginning with this summer’s cohort, high school students who complete the SEED/STEM program will be offered conditional acceptance to the School of Science at Indiana University Indianapolis.  

This new initiative recognizes the students’ rigor and scholarly aptitude, said Matt Allen, PhD, who directs the Indiana CTSI’s workforce development programs. 

“Every year, the School of Science admits a number of students in the SEED/STEM program, and some choose to enroll. We hope that this offer of conditional acceptance will boost those numbers and encourage students who meet the academic requirements for admission to continue their education here,” he said.  

John DiTusa, PhD, dean of the School of Science, lauded the SEED/STEM program for helping students see themselves as scientists before they enter college. As they engage in research, work alongside their faculty mentors, and see how science is done first-hand, he said, they gain the skill and confidence they need to excel in college science programs.

During a poster symposium at the end of July, SEED/STEM students showcased their research.

“Through the conditional acceptance program at IU Indianapolis, students are explicitly invited to build on that foundation through classwork and experiential learning opportunities such as hands-on research and internships,” he said.  

Additionally, he noted, they will have the opportunity to make connections to a thriving life sciences and health care community. 

“IU Indianapolis is an ideal place for young scientists to transform curiosity into discovery and a passion for science into a meaningful career,” DiTusa said. 

The SEED/STEM program was recently recognized with the Outstanding Project SEED Program Award from the American Chemical Society (ACS) at the ACS Fall 2026 Meeting in Chicago.
