Physical activity is something that belongs in everyone’s lives and can be easily incorporated in simple and easy ways that are not just going to the gym or running. The Hoosier Health and Wellness Alliance knows that for many Hoosiers, the thought of participating in physical activity or exercise is intimidating causing them to shy away from it all together. However, we cannot let that nervousness stop us from living a healthy lifestyle. Participating in at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity a day for at least 5 days a week will help you to improve your overall health. Did you know that being active will help you think, sleep, and feel better while also helping to decrease your risk of developing chronic diseases and obesity1? It’s true and the more active you are the more you will feel the benefits of physical activity and healthy living!
We know that Hoosiers want their communities to be healthy, thriving, and active places. Unfortunately, 1 in 3 Hoosiers do not get the proper amount of physical activity in order to live a healthy life and be the best version of themselves. We believe the key to changing this trend is to include physical activity in your daily routines so it will feel less intimidating, stressful, or time-consuming. We recommend walking instead of driving to work or school. If this isn’t feasible for you, could you walk to your local transit spots while on your daily commute? Biking is also a great, easy, and healthy way to get around that will help you get in active time throughout the day! Next time you have free time or errands to run, consider riding your bike. Whatever it may be, it’s important to take the first step in improving your health by being active. And there is no greater time than the present so get up and get active today! Remember, active living is for everyone so let’s get moving Indiana!
