Enhancing IHB-FIMR data to stimulate fetal and infant mortality reduction strategies in Marion County2021-02-19T15:28:05-05:00

Co-Project Lead: Teri Conard, Fetal Infant Mortality Review Coordinator, Marion County Public Health Department
Project Lead: Carol Shieh, Associate Professor and Assistant Department Chair, Indiana University School of Nursing
In an effort to reduce infant mortality, Marion County established a community coalition known as the Indianapolis Healthy Babies—Fetal Infant Mortality Review (IHB-FIMR) Program. IHB-FIMR’s dataset contains information about fetal and infant deaths.  However, a significant barrier to the utilization of this data has been the lack of live birth data. The goal of this project is to enhance IHB-FIMR data to produce an empirical dataset essential for generating recommendations reflective of local realities and needs. Findings will be used to evaluate the impact of perinatal interventions, inform practice, and reduce infant mortality disparities in Marion County.
