Early Career Investigator Awards (K12)
K12 awards are available to clinician-scientists and basic scientists with either an MD or a PhD, who hold a full-time faculty position but have not yet been a principal investigator on an R01 or equivalent grant. These awards are designed to provide promising early career faculty the opportunity to be mentored in research-intensive, multi-disciplinary settings toward the goal of developing independent careers in clinical-translational research.
Application Process
- Application period: September – January
- Award start date: July of each year
- Award duration: 2 years
The second year of funding is contingent upon review and demonstration of satisfactory progress.
Eligibility
- Candidates must fall into one of the following categories:
- Clinician-scientists with a doctoral degree (physicians, nurses, dentists, pharmacists, clinical psychologists, optometrists, veterinarians, allied health care professionals, etc.)
- Basic scientists with a PhD who are doing translational research which involves some component of human subjects research and has high potential for early translation into impacting patient care.
- Must be a United States citizen or permanent resident.
- Hold a full-time faculty appointment with an Indiana CTSI affiliated institution by start of award.
