Clinical Research Staff Education
Clinical research staff benefit from four levels of education and training. Open to anyone who is interested, beginners and experienced professionals alike can take advantage of these trainings to gain critical skills and advance their careers.
Training Tailored to You
Most trainings take place virtually.
All new clinical research staff at IU School of Medicine are required to attend level one, which provides a foundation for working in human subject studies. Topics include the informed consent process and the basics of the Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA)
- Timeline: Within 2-12 weeks of starting your research career
- Commitment: One two-hour long virtual session
- Frequency: Offered Monthly
This training is recommended for all clinical research staff at IU School of Medicine. It will fill information gaps from departmental training and go into detail about how and why documentation should be completed.
- Timeline: Within three – six months of starting your research career
- Commitment: One ninety-minute virtual session
- Frequency: Offered every two months
Level two builds on the foundational skills learned in level 1 and 1.5. Topics include the basics of research study coordination, IRB submission processes, budgeting, compliance, and campus resources. This training is highly recommended for all IU School of Medicine clinical research staff.
- Timeline: Within 6-24 months of starting your research career
- Commitment: These recorded sessions will be available for you to complete at your own pace
Clinical research staff with at least three years of experience in the field are invited to apply. Participants will cultivate an advanced understanding of clinical research topics. Topics include more in-depth exploration of regulatory compliance , budgeting, and project management. Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits are available to those who complete level 3.
- Timeline: Available to anyone who has three years of experience in the field
- Commitment: Two days required in-person at the IU Indianapolis Campus
- Frequency: Offered once a year (fall, dates announced via email)
- Program applications will be announced six to eight weeks prior to session date
Clinical Research Education Series (CRES)
Enhance your skills with these hour-long sessions on vital topics in clinical research support. Tune in live every other month, or view past recordings on Kaltura. CME credit is available.
