Bench Research Staff Education
Research staff benefit from a new program that includes two levels of education and training.
The program is currently open to any research staff across Indiana University. This is intended for laboratory managers, research/data analysts, research/data scientists, research technologists, data managers and other staff within research environments. Plans are being developed to extend the training to Purdue University and University of Notre Dame research staff in the near future.
Training Tailored to You
Most trainings take place virtually.
All research staff at IU who are interested. Topics include basics of laboratory management practices, research compliance and data management.
Commitment: On 90-minute virtual session
Frequency: Offered 2 times per year
All research staff at IU who have completed Level 1 training. Sessions cover a single topic over a 90-minute virtual session.
IU-LEARN – Level 2: Research Integrity. October 23, 2026, 12-1:30. This 90-minute session will be devoted to the concept of research integrity. Led by faculty and staff within the Research Integrity Office. Virtual (Teams.) Register.
IU-LEARN-Level 2 Communicating Science. Dec 1, 11am-12 (Lunch provided 12-1) Your research has the power to change minds, shape policy, and improve lives—but only if people understand it. In this dynamic workshop for research staff, learn how to turn complex science into memorable stories that captivate audiences and inspire action. Discover practical techniques to sharpen your message, connect with diverse audiences, and amplify the reach and impact of your work far beyond the laboratory. This session is in person only (Fessler Hall Room 126). An optional lunch (provided) with time for networking will take place following the session. In-person. Register.
IU-LEARN – Level 2: Imaging Best Practices. Feb 26th, 12-1:30. This session will be devoted to the concept of imaging. We will cover basic concepts of best practices for image acquisition, modification, and storage. It will be led by faculty and staff in the Microscopy Core Facility at IU School of Medicine. IU-LEARN – Level 2: Best practices in animal research. March 12, 12-1:30. This session will be devoted to the concept of animal research. We will cover basic concepts of best practices for animal work, both compliance and technical aspects. It will be led by a team of Veterinarians and animal care experts. Virtual (Teams). Register.
IU-LEARN – Level 2: Data Storage. Nov 3, 12-1:00. This will be run by IU-Research Data experts and will have rich content regarding options and strategies for data storage. Virtual (Teams). Register.
