Undergraduate Summer Internships
Students work with faculty mentors on research projects designed to increase their awareness of and interest in translational research to accelerate the pace of taking medicine from the “bench to bedside.”
Program Benefits
The program generally runs from June to July each year, and students are expected to engage in research for 40 hours a week, each week, for the duration of the eight week program.
Students who take part in the program have the chance to:
- Work with research faculty mentors and their teams on clinical and translational research projects.
- Expand their career development in biomedical and life sciences areas.
- Receive access to IU School of Medicine facilities and resources on the IU Indianapolis campus.
- Earn a $4,000 summer research stipend
- Housing assistance will be provided to students who live >40 miles from the IU Indianapolis campus in downtown Indianapolis.

Who is Eligible to Participate?
Any undergraduate student who:
- Will have completed at least one full year (fall & spring terms) by June
- Is enrolled full-time at Indiana University (any campus), Purdue University (West Lafayette or Indianapolis), or the University of Notre Dame
- Is pursuing their first undergraduate degree with a major in any health or life sciences-related discipline
- Is a US citizen or permanent resident
