HOME-MADE ASTHMA FRIENDLY CLEANERS

These non-toxic cleaners are cheap and easy to make from supplies at home and are a great way to clean the house and decrease asthma triggers!

ALL-PURPOSE CLEANER

The American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology recommends mixing 2 cups of vinegar, 2 cups of hot water, 1/2 cup of salt, and 1 cup of Borax to make a powerful disinfectant and cleaner. For a gentler solution, great for removing water deposit stains and cleaning bathroom surfaces, mix 1/2 cup vinegar and 1/4 cup baking soda into 1/2 gallon of water.

MIRROR/WINDOW CLEANER

Pour 1/2 cup of vinegar into a 16oz spray bottle and top it off with water. Add 3-4 drops of liquid laundry detergent to prevent streaking and shake to mix. Spray, and use a lint-free rag or newspaper to wipe for streak-free windows!

TUB, TOILET, & SINK SCRUB

Try sprinkling baking soda onto porcelain surfaces that need scrubbed. Then, add a few drops of liquid castile soap and scrub with a damp sponge. Rinse the cleaned area with water to avoid leaving a hazy film.

DUSTING & VACUUMING

At least once per week, vacuum all floors and dust throughout. Use a microfiber cloth to dust or put a few drops of olive oil on a soft fabric and use to polish surfaces.

DRAIN CLEANER

First, pour 1/2 cup of baking soda down the clogged drain. Then, pour 1/2 cup of vinegar. Let the drain bubble for 3-5 minutes. Boil some water while you wait. Then, pour about a quart of boiling water down the drain. Repeat if needed. You can also use a drain snake for more stubborn clogs.

MOLD & MILDEW

Mix together a paste of lemon juice and salt, or vinegar and salt. Scrub the paste into the mold and mildew areas. Dry the area when you are done.
