The Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI) is excited to announce the promotion of Gina Claxton, MPH, RD to the role of Senior Director of Strategic Operations effective April 1, 2024. She previously served as Program Manager for the Indiana CTSI’s Community Health Partnerships.
Sarah Wiehe, MD, MPH, Co-Director of the Indiana CTSI, worked closely with Gina in her previous role. “We are thrilled Gina will be joining leadership as Senior Director of Strategic Operations,” she said. “Gina has been an integral part of the Indiana CTSI’s success for the past nine and a half years.”
As part of that role, Gina also served as the Associate Director of Operations of Research Jam, the Indiana CTSI Patient Engagement Core, and Program Manager of All IN for Health. She credits these experiences and the partnerships she has made during this time with providing her a unique perspective on implementation strategies that ultimately will move the work of the Indiana CTSI forward in its mission to bring together Indiana’s brightest minds to solve the state’s most pressing health challenges.
“Gina is a strong people leader – leaning on the strengths and always promoting the capacity of her team,” said Wiehe. “She engages authentically both within the CTSI and our community partners and demonstrates the Indiana CTSI’s trustworthiness in her leadership. We are so fortunate to have her in this role!”
Claxton shared that the people are what she has enjoyed the most about working with the Indiana CTSI.
“I can speak to personally benefitting from more than nine years of a visionary and supportive leadership team, an all-star team of co-workers, and amazing groups of internal and external partners,” she said.
Gina’s background includes a Master of Public Health degree with a focus in Health Systems Management and Policy from the University of Colorado. She also has a degree from Purdue University, where she studied both Dietetics and Nutrition and Fitness and Health. She also has worked as a registered dietitian and research assistant at the University of Colorado.
Looking to the months ahead in her new role, Claxton said that she is “excited to learn more about the incredible work being done across the Indiana CTSI, and to be a part of the process of accomplishing the goals set out in our latest proposed vision for the organization (CTSI 4.0).”
Outside of work, Gina spends her weekends with her husband and their four children. They are on a mission to visit as many national parks as they can and enjoy being active in their community. She also enjoys spending time tending to her garden.
“I am truly honored to be stepping into this position, and I look forward to working with all of you!” she said.
