Clinical Research Centers
Investigators statewide have access to high-quality and competitively priced services and facilities at clinical research centers on Indiana CTSI partner campuses.
The Clinical Research Centers (CRCs) support a wide variety of patient-oriented research, clinical trials, and also are a designated Phase 1 research center. The CRC’s provide investigators will clinic space, skilled nursing staff, and lab and nutrition services for both inpatient or outpatient visits.
Clinical research center staff work in a variety of therapeutic areas, including oncology, neuroscience, endocrinology, pulmonary, and pediatric care. They have training in clinical research conduct, advanced life support, and chemotherapy administration.

Space
Space to conduct outpatient study visits is available Monday-Friday, at the three IU Indianapolis CRCs.
Overnight Stays
Available at the University Hospital CRC. Three nights are offered. If additional nights are needed, please contact the Nurse Manager.
Phlebotomy
Available at the three IU Indianapolis CRCs.
Clinical Measurements
The following are available at all IU Indianapolis CRCs:
- Height & weight
- Waist/hip circumference
- Blood pressure
- Heart rate
- Respiratory rate
- Pulse oximetry measurements
University Hospital CRC and Neuroscience CRC (Goodman Hall) also provide:
- Electrocardiogram tracings
- Point of care testing (blood glucose, urine pregnancy, urinalysis via dipstick)
Remote telemetry is available through IU Health.
Drug Administration
Medication administration is available at both the University Hospital and Neuroscience (Goodman Hall) CRCs. Typical routes include:
- Oral
- Injectable
- Intravenous
- Intramuscular
- Subcutaneous
- Intranasal
For other routes, please contact the Nurse Manager to discuss. Injectable (intravenous, intramuscular, subcutaneous) and intranasal medications must utilize Investigational Drug Services for product management.
Adverse Effects Monitoring
CRC nursing staff at University Hospital and Neuroscience (Goodman Hall) are trained to respond to infusion-related reactions, hypersensitivity, cytokine release syndrome, neurotoxicity, and other AEs.
Bionutrition
Services are provided by the bionutrition team at Purdue University. Services at University Hospital and Neuroscience (Goodman Hall) include:
- Dietitian consultation
- Test meal development
- Preparation
- Delivery
- Homogenates
- Food intake analysis
- Education
At the University Hospital CRC, hospital foodservice trays are also available.
Bionutrition
Services available include:
- Test meal development, preparation and deliver
- Proximate nutrient analyses using bomb calorimeter
- Dietary intake analyses
- Education
Dietitian consultation is also available.
Energy Expenditure
Overnight and flexible whole-body indirect room calorimeters
Exercise Testing
Graded and submaximal exercise testing on treadmill and bike, 6-minute walk testing
Environmental Simulation Chamber

- Dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry
Phlebotomy and Sample Analysis

Bionutrition
Services such as:
- Test meal development, preparation and delivery
- Homogenate nutrient analyses
- Dietary intake analyses
- Education
Study management and dietician consultation are also available.
