Career and Mentoring Opportunities
Accelerating Women And underRepresented Entrepreneurs (AWARE): The AWARE Program is a multi-institutional partnership among the Indiana CTSI and the IU Research and Technology Corporation (IU-RTC) with the University of Louisville (UofL) and Missouri University of Science & Technology (Missouri S&T) to enhance the competitiveness and success rate of SBIR/STTR applications for women and minority entrepreneurs.
Advancing Women Mentoring Program: The Advancing Women Mentoring Program is designed to empower individuals toward academic, personal, and professional success by engaging participants in authentic mentoring partnerships. Students have the opportunity to be mentored throughout the academic year by IUI faculty and staff. Specifically, the program highlights topics pertaining to the advancement of women both in the university and the workplace. This program is open to all students, faculty, and staff with an interest in this subject. About 30 teams of mentor/mentees are paired each year.
Career Development Consultations: Career Development Consultations at IU School of Medicine provide a free, one-time, brief meeting in which a senior faculty consultant assists a more junior faculty participant with targeted guidance around career goals and plans. This guidance is based on a review of the participant’s career development plan and CV, as well as conversations that emerge during the meeting.
Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI): The Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative at Indiana University provides peer-reviewed, web-based educational courses in research, ethics, regulatory oversight, responsible conduct of research, research administration, and other topics. CITI courses are used worldwide by more than 2,200 organizations and more than 1 million learners around the world annually.
Enhanced Mentoring Program with Opportunities for Ways to Excel in Research (EMPOWER): The Enhanced Mentoring Program with Opportunities for Ways to Excel in Research has been developed to support IUI faculty who are historically underrepresented and/or excluded populations in their discipline or area of scholarship and historically denied admission to higher education or that discipline, 1) to become successful in sponsored research and scholarly activity, and 2) to achieve significant professional growth and advancement.
Leadership in Academic Medicine Program (LAMP): The Leadership in Academic Medicine Program is a year-long, cohort-based faculty development and orientation program for faculty in the second and third years of their appointment. The seminars introduce participants to the fundamentals of career planning, self-management and leadership skills. As a result of this program, faculty have tools that will enable them to accomplish their primary career goals and aspirations. The curriculum includes sessions specifically designed for both clinicians and research faculty and involves a one-on-one coaching session with a senior faculty member.
Independent Investigator Incubator (I3) program: The Independent Investigator Incubator is designed to train extraordinarily successful researchers through our comprehensive mentorship program, which is specifically dedicated to new faculty during the crucial first three years of their research careers. The Independent Investigator Incubator aims to help Indiana University School of Medicine scientists generate cutting-edge research by enhancing their career development, assisting them in securing research funding, and helping them to disseminate and translate their research findings.
IUI Mentoring Academy: When an academic culture promotes mentoring, all involved in the process benefit. Whether faculty are new to academia, long-time IUI faculty members, or anywhere in between, mentoring relationships can offer social and career support, leadership development, and job satisfaction. The IUI Mentoring Academy aims to provide the benefits of a mentoring culture that combine to create an environment where unlimited success is possible.
Project Development Teams (PDTs): The Indiana CTSI’s Project Development Teams provide investigators access to experts who can help implement high-quality pilot projects that generate successful external grant submissions.
