Dr. Sylk Sotto, the Indiana CTSI’s Chief Diversity Officer and Director of All IN for Health, to depart for new role with University of Pittsburgh

Image of Sylk SottoSylk Sotto, EdD, MBA, MPS, who holds many important roles at the Indiana CTSI that reflect her rich and varied expertise, is leaving the institute and Indiana University School of Medicine in June for an exciting new opportunity.

She has accepted a new role as Associate Vice Chancellor for Faculty Development and Inclusive Excellence for University of Pittsburgh Health Sciences. There, she will oversee all six of the institution’s health sciences schools (Dental, Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Public Health).

She will begin in that role on July 1st.

Sotto, a health equity scholar, holds multiple leadership roles at the Indiana CTSI, spanning health equity, professional development, and research ethics. She has served as Director of All IN for Health since 2021, and as Chief Diversity Officer since 2023. Additionally, she is Co-Director of the CTSI’s Workforce Development program, and is involved with the Bioethics and Subject Advocacy Program (BSAP).

“My time at the Indiana CTSI has been filled with professional and personal satisfaction,” said Sotto. “It has been a pleasure to work with all of our partners and, most importantly, for all of our communities.”

During her time with the Indiana CTSI, Sotto has led conversations and initiatives on health research literacy, increasing research participation, and communicating the importance of diversity and inclusion in health equity.

Sotto, who is also an Associate Professor of Medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine, has been a leader in the Department of Medicine since she joined the institution in 2015. She is that department’s Vice Chair for Faculty Affairs and Professional Development, and Vice Chair for Diversity, Health Equity, and Inclusion.

Sharon Moe, MD, who is Co-Director of the Indiana CTSI, said that she, fellow Co-Director Sarah Wiehe, MD, MPH, and their colleagues are grateful to Sotto for her leadership, inspiration, and dedication to the organization’s mission to improve health equity across the state.

“We will miss Dr. Sotto in the many roles she held in the CTSI, and her great sense of humor,” said Moe, “but we congratulate her on her promotion and wish her all the best in the future.”

While enthusiastic about her next steps, Sotto says she will “never stop bragging” about Moe and Wiehe’s leadership, or about how valuable the Indiana CTSI’s resources are for investigators, partners, and communities alike.

“I leave the institution, but not the amazing people,” she said.
