Activity-Based Therapy Program Award
Supports activity-based therapy programs for the prevention, treatment and cure of spinal cord and traumatic brain injuries (only), including acute management, medical complications, rehabilitative techniques, and neuronal recovery. Activity based therapy services refers to specialized interventions that activate the neuromuscular system below the level of the lesion, involving intense, repetitive physical activity performed with the goal of retraining the nervous system to recover specific motor tasks.

Biomedical Research Grant
The objective of the Biomedical Research Grant Program is to foster scholarly and creative research by worthy investigators so that they can compete successfully for extramural research support. Targeted projects are: 1) research projects of investigators new to Indiana University School of Medicine who do not yet have extramural funding and who need support to acquire the preliminary data necessary to compete for extramural funding; 2) research projects of established investigators of Indiana University School of Medicine who are between funding periods from extramural sources. Awards are up to $50,000 and be limited to one (1) year duration.

The goal of this RFA is to stimulate development for emerging
translational research needs and fund innovative pilot projects

Center for Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases (CDMD) Pilot & Feasibility Funding
A primary research-related activity of the CDMD's P&F program is to foster the development of new diabetes-related investigators and provide seed-support for innovative, high-risk projects. The program is particularly directed at new investigators and established investigators new to diabetes-related research. The program also considers established diabetes investigators pursuing high impact/high risk projects or projects that are a significant departure from their usual work. Work supported by these funds is expected to lead to submissions of major extramural grants. Awards are up to $45,000 and are limited to one (1) year duration

Clinical & Translational Science Pilot Grant
Supports translational science projects that help identify translational
methods and processes relevant across a range of diseases, treatments,
and interventions. The key objective of the projects should be to
develop methodological innovations and/or produce crosscutting solutions
for common and persistent challenges to reduce, remove, or bypass
significant bottlenecks across the continuum of translation.
Awards are up to $40,000 and are 12 months (1 year) in duration without
ability to apply for a no cost extension.

Community Health Partnerships (CHeP) Trailblazer Planning Award
The Trailblazer Planning Award RFA supports proposals that develop community-academic partnerships that address health, health equity or social determinants of health (SDOH). Projects must involve both an academic partner and a community partner on the project. Both partners must currently be working in an Indiana-based institution / organization. The Trailblazer Award RFA supports collaborative projects from community-university partners from a diverse array of geographical areas and campuses throughout the state that 1) implement research that has the potential to improve health or health care, 2) perform a needed evaluation of an existing health-related program. Projects must involve both an academic partner and a community partner on the project. Both partners must currently be working in an Indiana-based institution / organization. The RFA topic focus area rotates on an annual basis. Awards are up to $25,000 per project for one year

Core Pilot Awards
Core Pilot
The goal of this RFA is to promote the use of technologies and expertise
afforded by the Indiana CTSI Core Facilities available at all partner
institutions. Successful proposals will demonstrate outstanding scientific
merit that can be linked to generating extramural funding or novel
intellectual property (IP). Success of the program will be viewed,
in part, by the fostering of new funded grants or providing significant
contributions to grant renewals. Funding is for utilization of
designated Indiana CTSI core facilities only.
Awards are up to $10,000 per project and projects are typically two years
in duration.

Global Health Reciprocal Innovation Awards
Global Health Reciprocal Innovation Awards
This reciprocal innovation grant program is funded to support the
research of Indiana CTSI investigators and their international partners.
Reciprocal innovation is the bi-directional and iterative exchange of a
technology, methodology, or process between at least two countries,
one lower or middle income country and one high income country, to
address a common health challenge and provide mutual benefit to
both sides.
The Demonstration Grants fund up to (2) awards up to $50,000 each to
support high impact solutions that provide reciprocal benefit to Indiana
and our LMIC partners, while the Planning Grants fund awards up to
$10,000 to support planning and training activities that will lead
to applications for projects demonstrating reciprocal innovation.

Indiana CTSI (IUSM) Core Equipment Grant
Supports the purchase of equipment by IU School of Medicine CTSI
Designated Service Cores that will enhance the research environment and
contribute to the research mission of the IU School of Medicine and the
Indiana CTSI.
Proposals requesting equipment that costs between $5,000 - $100,000
will be accepted. Proposals for equipment costing more than $100,000
will be entertained if matching funds to cover the balance are
identified.

This RFA is a competitive opportunity in the form of an expense
account for use of core facility services. Funding is to be used
only for services provided by the core facilities. Applicants may
also participate as proposal reviewers. Post-doctoral fellows at
IU, IUSM, IUPUI, Purdue and Notre Dame are eligible.
Awards are up to $5,000 per proposal for a one-year project period.

Indiana Traumatic Spinal Cord & Brain Injury Research Fund
The goal of this RFA is to foster and encourage research for the
prevention, treatment and cure of traumatic spinal cord and brain
injuries, including acute management, medical complications,
rehabilitative techniques, and neuronal recovery.
Awards are up to a maximum of $80,000 per year for two years (total of
$160,000) for basic science, up to a maximum of $100,000 per year for
two years (total of $200,000) for clinical research, and up to
$100,000 for one year for early commercialization proposals targeting
new technologies (i.e. diagnostic or therapeutic drugs / devices).

Supports the planning and collaborative team building across campuses to develop of large multi-investigator and/or multi-project, milestone-driven, translational research teams who are planning to eventually submit a multi-year extramural grant applications with annual budgets of $300K or higher in direct costs per year. Teams must be lead by an IUB PI with members of the gram from other Indiana CTSI affiliate campuses.

The goal of this RFA is to support new didactic and clinical teaching
tools that serve as unique solutions to complex educational processes.
Applicants must be IU Health employees or physicians with medical
staff privileges at Indiana University Health or persons with
significant teaching responsibilities or who hold a special
assignment at IU Health.
Award amounts are up to a maximum of $50,000 per year for two years.

K12 Career Development Award
The Indiana CTSI K12 Career Development Award in Clinical-Translational
Science Research is designed to provide promising early career
investigators with the opportunity to be mentored in research-intensive,
multi-disciplinary settings toward the goal of developing careers in
clinical-translational science research. Applicants must meet specific
eligibility requirements.
Awards offer up to 75% salary support, capped at $100,000 annually, and
protected time for research and participation in career development
training. In addition, the award offers up to $10,500 per year for the
scholar’s pilot research and training-related expenses. The award is
for two years, contingent upon satisfactory progress at the end of
year one.

Project Development Teams
Project Development Teams
Project Development Teams (PDTs) are committees that consist of multidisciplinary researchers who assist investigators in developing ideas/hypotheses into well-designed translational research projects. The teams serve as "one stop shops" by providing investigators access to protocol development; pilot funding; biostatistics; IRB/regulatory and nursing support; facilitation of collaboration with other investigators and access to Core Resources on the IUPUI, IU, Purdue and Notre Dame campuses, all in one meeting. There are currently 5 PDTs within the Indiana CTSI: Community, Healthcare Delivery & Implementation Science; Concepts to Clinic; Human Health & Biomedical Technology; Pediatric Sciences; Structural & Social Determinants of Health.

Project Business Management Assistance Award (Kelley MBA)
Provides teams of 2-5 Indiana Kelley MBA students (from the
residential-MBA program in Bloomington) to partner on a project and
provide advice / assistance with project management needs, marketing
needs, financial management needs, or resource efficiency needs.
Open to all programs, units and resources providing a central service
to Indiana CTSI investigators.
Project durations will be 8 to 9 weeks commencing in early March and
completing by early May

Research Enhancement Grant
The objective of the Research Enhancement Grant program is to
stimulate research productivity at the nine regional campuses (this
does not include the IUPUI campus). The intent is to foster scholarly
and creative research by worthy investigators so that they can compete
successfully for extramural research support.
This program is funded by the IUSM with matching funds
contributed by each of the Centers/Medical Sciences. Awards are up
to $50,000 for a one (1) year duration

The goal of this RFA is to foster research projects but (per
donor intent) exclusive of research in psychiatry, sociology, or
social studies.
Awards are up to $75,000 (indirect costs) for one year and must

Translational Population Health Research Award
Translational Population Health Research Award
Supports any aspect of population health that will result in an
external funding and ultimately lead to the improvement of population
health outcomes. Applications require a partnership between an IUB
faculty member and a community or public health liaison (e.g.,
non-profit organization, local public health department) external to
IUB, or a collaborator at another Indiana CTSI partner institution.
Award amounts are up to $50,000/year for two years for a total of
$100,000.
