COVID-19 may cause asthma attacks, lead to pneumonia, or cause acute respiratory disease in people with asthma.
WHAT’S THE RISK?
COVID-19 is a respiratory disease, and people with asthma may be at a high risk of getting seriously ill if they catch it.
STAYING HEALTHY
There is no cure for COVID-19. The best way to stay safe is to avoid getting ill by avoiding exposure to the virus, preparing, and following your Asthma Action Plan.
AVOID EXPOSURE
Stay away from crowds and people who are sick. Avoid non-essential travel, especially on airlines or cruise ships. If an outbreak is happening in your community, stay at home as much as you can. Wash your hands and disinfect high touch surfaces!
PREPARE
Stock up on groceries, household items, and over-the-counter medical supplies like tissues. Ask your doctor about getting extra necessary medications, or using mail-order for medications.
KNOW YOUR ASTHMA ACTION PLAN
Take your medication exactly as prescribed. Talk with your doctor, pharmacist, and insurer about creating an emergency supply of medication. Know how to use your inhaler, and avoid your asthma triggers. Contact your healthcare provider if you have symptoms.
