In this webinar, the project director for the End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium discusses three communication strategies for nurses to employ in their work during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sigma Theta Tau International is offering free resources to nurses to help them communicate more effectively with seriously ill patients and families. During this unprecedented epidemic and rapidly changing environment, three essential communication skills to implement include:
- Attentive listening: use nonverbal communication to demonstrate listening
- Ask-Tell-Ask: open with a question, respond with what you know is true, and conclude with an open-ended question to allow the patient/family to direct the conversation
- Maintain hope: help others cope and find meaning in the situation
