Review: A single mass gathering resulted in massive transmission of COVID-19 infections in Malaysia with further international spread

This case report shows why mass gatherings during the COVID-19 pandemic period should be strictly prohibited.

Malaysia has the most COVID-19 cases in Southeast Asia. More than a third of them are linked to the Sri Petaling gathering, a Moslem missionary movement attended by more than 19 000 people in March 2020 in Kuala Lumpur. From this one cluster, more than 1700 samples have tested positive.
