Review: Global sentiments surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic on Twitter

This study found that global online discourse is evolving but that negative emotions are still predominant throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

Public emotions have shifted during the COVID-19 pandemic from fear to anger and even sadness and joy. Negative emotions (anger and sadness) continue to increase during the COVID-19 pandemic, which need to be counterbalanced. This is of utmost importance to increase trust in public health and government officials. By monitoring societal concerns, regular crisis communication can be coupled with strategic public health communication that focuses on psychological well-being.
