Metabolite Profiling Facility (MPF)

Affiliation :  Purdue University

Director:   Bruce R. Cooper, Ph.D.

The Metabolite Profiling Facility (MPF) provides state-of-the-art technologies that enable both qualitative (comparative analysis) and quantitative (absolute concentrations) metabolite analysis in complex biological systems. The facility can perform or consult on sample preparation, instrumental analysis, and data analysis. Samples include tissue, cells, plasma, urine, feces, hair, bone, etc. The facility employs highly sensitive mass spectrometry coupled with liquid chromatography and gas chromatography (HPLC-MS/MS and GC-MS/MS). Mass spectrometers include triple quadrupoles for selectivity and sensitivity of known analytes, and time-of-flight for high mass accuracy of unknown analytes. Many software applications are used for statistical data analysis, compound structure elucidation, and biochemical pathway determination.
