This review reminds us that although research is ongoing, no therapies have been shown effective to date.
Health care providers need accurate evidence regarding effective medical treatments for COVID-19. This was a review of the current literature.
No matter what media reports say, no proven effective therapies COVID-19 currently exist. There are, however, a significant number of potential drug targets. The most promising therapy is remdesivir, which has in vitro activity against the virus. It is now, however, approved by the FDA, and it’s being tested in ongoing randomized trials right now.
Oseltamivir has not been shown to work. Corticosteroids are not recommended. Current evidence does not support stopping ACE inhibitors or angiotensin receptor blockers in those affected by COVID-19.
